Auto Accident Injuries & Chiropractic Care

When you're in an auto accident, your neck is the most susceptible area to injury. If your neck is already in a weakened state (for example, you've been having headaches) you only need to be traveling a few miles per hour to cause further damage to it. At slightly higher speeds, your low back, your ribs where the seatbelt crosses, your shoulders, knees and ankles can be seriously injured as well. You may not know you have a problem until you start getting aches and pains weeks or even months after the accident occurred.

In less severe accidents, your body is affected similarly to your car being out of alignment. You may not notice much change until you look at your tires a few months down the road. The same thing happens to your body. The discs and joints start to wear out unevenly and before their time. This is when the degenerative or arthritic process sets in and the aches and pains start.

MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT:

Injuries to the neck caused by a sudden movement of the head, backward, forward, or sideways, is referred to as whiplash. Whether from a car accident, sports, or an accident at work, whiplash or other neck injuries warrant a thorough chiropractic check-up. The biggest danger with whiplash injuries is that the symptoms can take years to develop. Too often, people don't seek treatment until more serious complications develop. Even after whiplash victims settle their insurance claims, some 45% report they still suffer with symptoms up to two years later.

RESULTS:

If left untreated, injuries from auto accidents can lead to chronic problems like headaches, neck pain, numbness and tingling in the arms, dizziness, insomnia, low back pain, sciatica and a whole host of other symptoms. Once they become chronic, these physical problems become very difficult to treat — sometimes necessitating surgery. Fortunately there is a solution to these injuries — safe and natural chiropractic care!

Chiropractic care can help prevent acute inflammation from spreading unimpeded throughout the injured area and wreaking havoc on your body and your life. Treatment also helps to keep the joints mobile by removing subluxations (misalignments of the vertebrae or bones of the spine) caused by the auto accident. In this way, chiropractic care not only helps the body to heal itself from its injuries, but also prevents the injuries from becoming chronic and long-lasting problems.

  1. vehicle, that doesn't mean injury did not occur. At just 10mph, the body can be subjected to a force of 5 to 10 G's. The force of 10 G's is greater than a fighter pilot would experience during aerial combat.
Independent studies show that your body can violently move back and forth 6 to 10 times the speed your auto was going at time of impact. In other words, a 5-10 mph crash, your neck can move at 50 to 100 miles per hour! This is how G force can cause serious injuries at even low speeds.
Even those involved in low-speed accidents should see their chiropractor to rule out a whiplash injury that, if left untreated, can have ramifications for years.
